Jeju Island encompasses a wide range of climate zones from the subtropical zone to the polar zone along altitudinal gradient of Mt. Hallasan located in the center of the island.
In addition to the geological diversity including valleys, oreum (volcanic cone in Jeju dialect), and Gotjawal formed by volcanic activities, its geographical characteristics have helped the island develop unique volcanic features and ecosystem.
